The Investigative Committee opened a case on two counts after the death of children in a fire in Ussuriysk.

A criminal case has been opened in Ussuriysk (Primorsky Krai) under articles on negligence and causing death by negligence after the deaths of two small children in a fire. This is reported by the regional Investigative Committee and the prosecutor's office.

The fire occurred on the evening of October 31 at 136 Polushkina Street. One of the apartments on the third floor caught fire. Rescuers arrived and carried three unconscious children out of the room.

A six-month-old baby and a two-year-old child died. A three-year-old child was hospitalized. The fire area was 10 sq. m. Personal belongings were burned in the apartment.

"According to preliminary data, the fire was caused by careless handling of fire. In addition, the children's mother led an antisocial lifestyle and was not in the apartment at the time of the fire," the Investigative Committee said in a statement.

A criminal case has been opened under Part 3 of Article 293 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation "Negligence resulting in the death of two persons by negligence" and Part 3 of Article 109 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation "Causing death by negligence".

According to the prosecutor's office, the case of negligence was initiated based on the results of the inspection. It turned out that the family was recognized as being in a socially dangerous situation, while there was no proper control over the patronage of young children by the Oktyabrskaya Central district Hospital, writes IA PrimaMedia.

The prosecutor's office also revealed violations in the work of the school, where another child, a 10—year-old boy, studied. He did not live with his family and was not injured in the fire. The agency believes that the school did not find out in time exactly how the child lives and, accordingly, did not inform the authorized authorities for his placement in custody.

The investigation of the criminal case is ongoing.
