The doctor warned about the dangerous consequences of a late dinner
Eating heavy meals should take place no earlier than three to four hours before bedtime, otherwise it can lead to problems with the gastrointestinal tract, obesity, and skin deterioration. Olga Tarasova, Associate Professor of the Department of Hospital Pediatrics at the Institute of Motherhood and Childhood at Pirogov University, told about this on Saturday, November 1.
"When you sleep, all the processes in the body slow down. The food eaten before bedtime stagnates in the stomach, the processes of fermentation and putrefaction begin," Tarasova said in an interview with Lenta.Ru .
According to the expert, all this leads to a feeling of heaviness and discomfort, heartburn, as well as morning sickness and lack of a healthy appetite, as the body does not have time to digest yesterday's dinner.
"Many people mistakenly think that eating helps them fall asleep. Yes, after a heavy meal, you may feel sleepy due to the outflow of blood from the brain to the stomach. But it's an unhealthy, shallow sleep," she explained.
Tarasova added that carbohydrates eaten at night cause a sharp spike in blood sugar and a powerful release of insulin.
"Excess glucose, which the body cannot effectively use for energy during sleep, it sends directly to fat depots. Simply put, at night everything you eat is stored in fat much more readily than during the day," said the doctor.
Tarasova suggested drinking a glass of warm kefir, natural yogurt or herbal tea if you want to eat before going to bed. This will satisfy hunger without overloading the digestive tract, she concluded.
On October 28, nutritionist Lyudmila Denisenko told in an interview with kp.ru about products that will help make a late dinner not only acceptable, but also useful for sleep.
She noted that turkey is an excellent source of tryptophan, an amino acid necessary for the synthesis of the sleep hormone melatonin. A turkey sandwich on grain bread can help you fall asleep if you suffer from insomnia. 360.ru .
On September 30, doctor Ekaterina Dmitrenko shared ways to improve sleep quality. According to her, most adults need to sleep 7-9 hours a night or 7.5 hours on average. The specialist clarified that sleeping less than seven hours a day is a health risk, and sleeping too long (9-10 hours) may indicate illness. Dmitrenko noted that it is important not only the quantity, but also the quality of sleep, including regularity, continuity and balance of phases.
In turn, Natalia Denisova, a dietitian at the Federal Research Center for Nutrition, Biotechnology and Food Safety, told the Moscow City News Agency that skipping breakfast can help slow down the metabolic rate, so people who ignore morning meals are 4.5 times more likely to be obese.
