Russian customers of Revolut began to block accounts
Russians living in EU countries with long-term visas or residence permits report that their accounts have been blocked by Revolut Bank. This was reported on November 1 by the Russian Service of the BBC.
"The bank's Russian clients have received two messages. In one case, they were asked to provide a copy of the residence permit, and in the second they were notified of the closure of the account, after which it becomes impossible to provide the relevant documents," the Telegram channel says.
Several people confirmed this information in personal communication with journalists. Among them were those who contacted the bank's customer service with a request to talk about the possible consequences of the 19th package of sanctions. In response, they received messages that they had nothing to worry about, at least until December 22.
The bank's press service, in turn, pointed out that the company needs to comply with the sanctions restrictions.
"As a globally regulated financial institution, Revolut must comply with the sanctions laws and regulations of the United Nations, the European Union, the United Kingdom, the United States and all other applicable laws and regulations in all jurisdictions in which Revolut operates," RBC reports.
On October 23, the head of the European Diplomacy, Kaya Kallas, announced that the EU had adopted the 19th package of sanctions against Russia. She noted that the restrictions are aimed, in particular, at Russian banks, cryptocurrency exchanges, organizations in India and China. In addition, the European Union then restricted the movement of Russian diplomats.
Later, on October 31, Russia responded by banning EU representatives from entering the country. They were talking about employees of law enforcement agencies, government and commercial organizations, and citizens of EU member states who provided military assistance to Kiev. In addition, entry will be prohibited to those who undermined the territorial integrity of the Russian Federation and persecuted Russian officials for "illegal arrests and removal of people from Ukrainian territories."
