Volkswagen car sales growth in Russia has outpaced the global one
Volkswagen Group's car sales in Russia have increased by 10% this year compared to last year. Sergey Tselikov, director of the Autostat analytical agency, told about this in his Telegram channel. At the same time, as the expert pointed out, the group's global car sales showed an increase of only 1%.
So, in the first nine months of 2025, 11.3 thousand Volkswagen group cars were sold in Russia. Almost 60% of these vehicles were produced in China. The group's global sales reached 6.6 million vehicles.
From January to September, 3,897 new Volkswagen vehicles were sold in Russia, which is 4% more year-on-year. Skoda is in second place in the rating among the brands that are part of the concern, with a score of 3,559 units (+43%).
Next are Audi (2,039 units; -11%), Porsche (1,551 units; 0%), Bentley (151 units; +17%) and Lamborghini (112 units; +1%). Cars are supplied to the Russian Federation through alternative channels.
Earlier in the day, it was reported that 200,000 workers could be cut in the German automotive industry. It is specified that the reason for the mass layoffs may be the weak quarterly figures of automakers Mercedes-Benz and Volkswagen. As noted by automotive industry expert Ferdinand Dudenhoffer, the reason for Mercedes-Benz's losses lies in the large number of severance payments to employees. A similar situation is observed at Volkswagen.
