According to the results of the 2024/25 season, Russia has become the leader in the export of sunflower oil.

According to the results of the last agricultural season, Russia has taken a leading position among the sunflower oil exporting countries. This was announced on November 1 by Ilya Ilyushin, head of the Agroexport Federal Center.

"Following the results of the 2024/25 season, which ended in August, Russia became the leader among the sunflower oil exporting countries, overtaking Ukraine," Ilyushin said.

Experts estimate that almost 5.2 million tons of the product have entered foreign markets from Russia. Thus, the top 3 exporters are: Russia (5.2 million tons), Ukraine (4.7 million tons) and Argentina (1.3 million tons).

The head of Agroexport noted that in recent years Russia has been actively increasing exports of fat and oil products, among which sunflower oil is the flagship.

"Our companies are systematically expanding and deepening partnerships with the world's leading importers, successfully competing in the markets of South and Southeast Asia, the Middle East, and Africa, as well as discovering new directions," Ilyushin said.

What government support measures are needed to achieve the goal

Prior to that, on October 27, Dmitry Patrushev, Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation, announced that seasonal field work was coming to an end in Russia, and at the moment the harvest had reached the level of 135 million tons in bunker weight. He added that the President of the Russian Federation has set a goal to seriously increase the production of agricultural products by 2030. According to the plan, they should increase by a quarter, and exports should increase 1.5 times.
