Free travel on suburban routes is available to new privileged categories of citizens living in the Moscow region. Some groups of citizens under the age of 60 who have a social card for the Moscow region have been given the opportunity to travel for free, said Maxim Liksutov, Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Transport and Industry.

Veterans of labor, persons who have reached the pre-retirement age or are already receiving a pension, and veterans of military service are now eligible for preferential travel.

"On behalf of Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin, together with the government of the Moscow region, we are trying to provide passengers with a convenient transition to the new ticket system on suburban routes. After making the necessary changes to the legislation, trips to the capital from the nearest Moscow region have become even more accessible for certain categories of passengers," Liksutov said.

Those wishing to arrange a free ride should contact the Moscow Region MFC. The social card will be recoded there, and it will be updated on the day of the visit.

Earlier, residents of the region were given the opportunity to pay for travel on buses of Moscow transport using single season tickets of the "Suburb" zone for 30, 90 and 365 days. They will be able to save about 60% per year on trips to the region, the Department of Transport estimates.

In addition, there are uniform tickets without travel limits for the "Suburb" zone on the Moskvich card for students on suburban routes of Moscow transport. They are also suitable for traveling by metro, MCC, MCD and land transport.
