The State Duma appreciated the refusal of the Ukrainian athlete to be photographed with a Russian woman.

Olympic champion and State Duma deputy Svetlana Zhurova on November 1 called the typical situation with the refusal of Ukrainian weightlifter Alina Daderko to be photographed with Russian Polina Pavlovich.

"This is a typical situation. Ukrainians are afraid that they will be driven out of the world in their homeland. At the same time, it is possible that without cameras, inside locker rooms and podium rooms, athletes can communicate with each other quite normally. After all, they have nothing to do with politics," TASS quoted her as saying.

The incident occurred at the European Junior Weightlifting Championships in Albania. The Ukrainian athlete refused to be photographed on the podium with the Russian woman. Albanka Ekileda Tsaryi won the competitions in the weight category up to 63 kg. Daderko won the silver medal, and Pavlovich won the bronze.

Earlier, on October 21, Zhurova explained the refusal of Ukrainian athletes to shake hands with Russians. According to her, they can be understood, since in Ukraine they may face negative consequences for such actions. The deputy called this behavior a way of survival. Zhurova stressed that Ukrainian athletes have to think not only about the competition, but also about how they look and behave in public.
