- Telegram was banned by a foreign agent of the CHEKA-OGPU for doxing and extortion
The CHEKA-OGPU channel (recognized as a foreign agent in the Russian Federation) has become unavailable on Telegram. This became known on November 1.
"This channel is blocked for doxing (publication of personal data or confidential information without a person's consent, as well as threats of their disclosure. — Ed.) and extortion," the notification says when trying to access the channel.
At the same time, the authors switched to a backup channel, Izvestia was convinced.
For the first time, the Telegram channel was blocked on the night of April 7th. It was noted that Roskomnadzor repeatedly demanded that the Telegram messenger delete both individual messages and the entire CHEKA-OGPU channel (recognized as a foreign agent in the Russian Federation) in connection with the publication of information deemed unreliable, as well as extremist materials.
The CHEKA-OGPU channel was added to the register of foreign agents in July 2024. At that time, the Ministry of Justice of the Russian Federation noted that the page disseminated false information about the policies of the Russian authorities, as well as false information that formed a negative image of the Russian Armed Forces.
In February 2023, Alexander Gusov, the founder of the CHEKA-OGPU, as well as the administrator of the Novy Vek Telegram channel, became involved in a criminal case involving extortion of 12.5 million rubles from Albert Avdolyan, a Russian businessman and creator of Yota. The investigation into this case is still ongoing.
All important news is on the Izvestia channel in the MAX messenger.
