A typical active donor in Russia is a 38—year-old man, more often with a university degree and more than five years of donation experience, who on average donates blood 4-5 times a year. This was announced on November 1, after reviewing the research data from Dorsearch, "Газета.Ru ".

The survey included 1,550 adult Russians who donated blood at least once in the last year. According to the study, the average age of donors is 38 years (minimum is 18, maximum is 63 years). Men make up 54% of the sample, women 46%. Most of the participants have a high level of education: 81% indicated incomplete higher or higher education. Almost half of the respondents (48%) work in private companies, and another 34% work in government and budget organizations.

The study showed that 28% of donors live in settlements numbering from 100 to 499 thousand people, 26% are residents of Moscow and St. Petersburg, and 20% are residents of cities with millions. On average, donors make 4.6 donations per year. More than half of the respondents (67%) have more than five years of donation experience, another 15% — from three to five years, and 14% — from one to three years.

The most common reason for the first donation was participation "for the company" or on the advice of friends and colleagues — 17% of respondents answered this way. In second place are altruism and the desire to help those in need (15%), as well as the support of a specific person in need of a blood transfusion (14%).

"13% of the participants made the decision on their own: "I just wanted to try." Such responses are especially typical for donors with short experience (1-4 years). And 11% donated blood for the first time during donor events and promotions (including university ones). 10% indicated that they went to donate blood, following the example of others," the publication says.

There is practically no financial motivation — only 3% of respondents reported it. The same number indicated "additional vacation days" or "interest, curiosity" as a reason to participate.

Another significant incentive was the desire to inspire others with their example — 56% of the participants named this factor. Status incentives are also important: 54% of donors would like to receive the title of "Honorary Donor of Russia." For 29%, donation has become a habit, and 18% noted that an important aspect for them is the opportunity to donate blood together with friends or colleagues, considering donation as a joint social activity.

Earlier, on July 3, Pavel Trakhtman, head of the Department of Transfusiology at the Dmitry Rogachev Children's Medical Center and an expert of the +Ya Donation and plasma project, said that blood vessels play a key role in the body, ensuring the delivery of nutrients and oxygen to organs. He noted that their condition worsens with age and with the wrong lifestyle, which can lead to serious illnesses.
