- In Slovakia, they proposed to annul marriages in case of a sex change of one of the spouses.
The Minister of Justice of Slovakia Boris Susko made a proposal to annul marriages if one of the spouses changed their gender. This was reported on October 31 by the Aktuality news portal.
"We are close to ensuring that Slovakia receives a modern, understandable and clear Civil Code. The current one dates back to the days of socialism, and we are the last country with such an outdated code," the portal quotes Susko as saying.
The Ministry of Justice has taken the initiative to amend the Civil Code of the Republic, according to which such marriages should be annulled automatically. The ministry explained that the creators of the current legislation of 1964 could not provide for the possibility of gender reassignment, so this issue had not previously been regulated. A provision that takes such situations into account will appear in the new Civil Code, which will enter into force in 2027.
Earlier in the day, it was reported that the Dutch authorities are considering the possibility of initiating a procedure to deprive Slovakia of the right to vote in the European Union (EU) after introducing a provision in the constitution recognizing only two genders — male and female. According to the Dutch Parliament, recent amendments to the Slovak constitution contradict European law and violate the rights of the LGBT community (the movement is recognized as extremist and banned in the Russian Federation).
