The official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, commented on the confession of journalist Roman Protasevich, who was considered an oppositionist, about his service in the intelligence service of Belarus. She made the corresponding statement on October 31 in the Telegram channel.

"Because the Belarusian partisans," she wrote, commenting on information about Protasevich's cooperation with Belarusian intelligence.

Zakharova's post was accompanied by an emoji with saluting emoticons.

Earlier in the day, President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko spoke about Protasevich's work in the Belarusian intelligence service. He stated that no one was going to detain the journalist.

On May 3, 2023, Protasevich was sentenced to 8 years in a penal colony. He was charged with publishing destructive information materials, as well as calls for protest-minded citizens to commit acts of terrorism. At the end of May, Alexander Lukashenko decided to pardon the blogger.

After that, Protasevich expressed gratitude to the president. In addition, he stated that he does not intend to leave Belarus and wants to be useful to the state.
