The decision of the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) on the admission of Russian luge athletes to international competitions has become a significant precedent. Mikhail Degtyarev, Minister of Sports of the Russian Federation and head of the Russian Olympic Committee, announced this in his Telegram channel on October 31.

"On October 31, the Court of Arbitration for Sport in Lausanne partially satisfied the appeal of the Russian Luge Federation and decided to lift the sanctions of the International Luge Federation (FIL) banning the participation of Russian athletes in international competitions," Degtyarev wrote on his Telegram channel.

According to Degtyarev, the FIL must now ensure the participation of Russian athletes in international competitions, including the qualifiers for the 2026 Olympic Games. He noted that this decision, along with similar ones in bobsleigh and table tennis, is a step in recognizing the inadmissibility of discrimination against athletes from Russia.

On the same day, the CAS allowed Russian luge skiers to participate in international competitions in a neutral status. According to the final decision, the board extended the period of suspension of Russian athletes from FIL competitions, but the ban on the participation of "athletes suitable for the criteria of neutrality" of the Russian Federation was lifted.

Svetlana Zhurova, Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs, called the CAS decision on the admission of Russian luge athletes to international tournaments excellent. However, she noted that this decision is not yet valid, as it remains to wait for the decision of the FIL.
