The Pechersk District Court of Kiev has placed former Odessa Mayor Gennady Trukhanov under round-the-clock house arrest. This was reported on October 31 by the Ukrainian edition of "Public. News".

"He and eight others are suspected of official negligence, which led to the death of people during bad weather on September 30," the newspaper wrote on its Telegram channel.

It is noted that the ex-mayor of Odessa was also required to wear an electronic bracelet. Trukhanov himself believes that the case against him is political in nature.

Earlier, on October 29, it was reported that Ukrainian investigative authorities had charged nine Odessa officials with official negligence, including Trukhanov, two of his deputies, as well as heads of departments of the city council and municipal enterprises.

Prior to that, on October 14, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky signed a decree depriving Trukhanov of Ukrainian citizenship. This measure also concerned ex-deputy of the Verkhovna Rada Oleg Tsarev and dancer Sergei Polunin. The decision was related to the alleged existence of Russian citizenship for all three.
