The State Duma reacted to the award of the failed doping test of the German skier
The recognition of Victoria Karl, who failed a doping test, as the best skier of the season in Germany speaks about the lack of morality. This was announced on October 31 by Dmitry Svishchev, first deputy chairman of the State Duma Committee on Physical Culture and Sports.
"With such attention to us, despite the fact that we have created perhaps the best anti-doping system in the world, something like this is happening somewhere in Europe. Morality is completely absent. As well as impunity," TASS quoted him as saying.
The parliamentarian also noted that nothing surprises him in this situation.
On the same day, Karl was recognized as the best skier in Germany, but in June the athlete failed a doping test due to cough syrup. It was clarified that the detected substance was an ingredient in cough syrup, which the athlete was prescribed and administered by a doctor after the final race at the Winter Military World Games (CISM) on March 26. According to DSV, this is an isolated case that arose due to an unfortunate combination of organizational and medical circumstances, and not because of the intention to deceive the athlete.
