The decision of the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) on the admission of Russian luge athletes to international tournaments in a neutral status is excellent. This opinion was expressed by Svetlana Zhurova, deputy chairman of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs, in an interview with Izvestia on October 31.
"This is good news, wonderful news," Zhurova said.
She also noted that this decision is not yet valid, since the decision of the International Luge Federation (FIL) has to be awaited.
On the same day, the CAS allowed Russian luge skiers to participate in international competitions in a neutral status. According to the final decision, the board extended the period of suspension of Russian athletes from FIL competitions, but the ban on the participation of "athletes suitable for the criteria of neutrality" of the Russian Federation was lifted.
