Vitaly Holdin, a psychiatrist and narcologist, chief freelance specialist at the Ministry of Health of the Moscow Region, explained why alcoholic beverages significantly increase the risk of stroke.

According to him, alcohol has a devastating effect on all organs, but first of all the brain suffers. Alcohol causes dystrophic changes in brain tissue due to ischemia, a lack of oxygen and nutrients supplied by the bloodstream. In addition, increased blood pressure caused by alcohol consumption can lead to hemorrhagic stroke, when a rupture of a vessel causes a brain hemorrhage, Radio 1 reported on Friday, October 31.

Research confirms that alcohol abuse increases the risk of stroke by 10-15 years. He also stressed that even small doses of alcohol increase the likelihood of developing the disease, so it is better to completely stop drinking alcohol.

On October 28, toxicologist Mikhail Kutushov said that alcohol acts as a toxic substance for body cells, causing DNA damage and disrupting their natural recovery processes, and with excessive alcohol consumption, these damages accumulate and over time can lead to cancer.
