The owner of the Userbox data breach bot, Morozov, has been detained
Igor Morozov, the owner of the Userbox data mining bot, was detained in St. Petersburg. This was announced on October 31 by a source of Izvestia.
It is noted that the man is charged with Article 272 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Unlawful access to information"). Two more defendants in the case were detained in Belarus.
The Userbox bot was used to disclose information from databases of leaked personal data. The information was provided to users when they entered a request by phone numbers, nicknames, email addresses, and social media pages. Currently, Userbox is not working.
On October 23, Russian President Vladimir Putin instructed the Prosecutor General's Office to sign the UN Convention against Cybercrime on behalf of Russia. The document provides for strengthening international cooperation in combating certain types of crimes committed using information and communication systems and in the electronic exchange of information.
