On October 31, President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko confirmed plans to put the Oreshnik medium-range missile on combat duty in December.
"Hazel" is a terrible weapon. He will be on combat duty in December," the BelTA news agency quoted him as saying.
The Belarusian leader also stressed that he would make the decision on the use of "Hazel" together with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Earlier, on October 28, Lukashenko said that Minsk could suspend the deployment of the Oreshnik if Europe was ready to take similar steps. According to him, some European countries have already announced plans to deploy medium-range missile systems.
Prior to that, on August 8, Lukashenko said that the positions for the deployment of the "Hazel Grove" in Belarus had already been determined and were being settled. Then he also claimed that the missile system would be deployed on the territory of Belarus by the end of the year. Later, on September 25, Lukashenko announced the deployment of the Oreshnik complex to Belarus.
