The XII solemn ceremony of awarding children and teenagers who showed courage in extreme situations during 2024-2025 was held in the Federation Council (SF). During the event on October 31, the children were awarded the commemorative medal of the Federation Council "For Courage".

The civic-patriotic project "Hero Children" has been fulfilling its mission for 12 years, supporting children who have committed courageous deeds. During this time, about 2 thousand children and teenagers from all over Russia have received awards.

One of the awardees was 15-year-old cadet Konstantin Gusev, who, leaving school after school, saw a police officer chasing a criminal and decided to help detain the fugitive. Despite the opponent's resistance, the young man held the violator until law enforcement officers arrived. In a conversation with Izvestia after the ceremony, the teenager admitted that at some point he felt scared, because the attacker could have had a weapon with him.

"A good person will not run away from the police. So I decided to catch him and help him. That's how school raised me. Then the company commander called, said — get ready for Moscow, you will be awarded. <...> I don't feel like a hero because I just decided to help. It is my duty to help people," he shared.

Another winner is Sergey Kastrin, who saved two little brothers who almost drowned in the river. 11-year-old Margarita Bikhtyakova and 12-year-old Ramazan Kijibaev from the Astrakhan region also received awards. Ramadan helped the girl who had fallen through the ice to get ashore, but at the same time he found himself waist-deep in the water. Margarita came to his aid. Hearing the cries for help, the schoolgirl rushed to the icy river, crawled up to the boy and pulled him to dry land.

"Mom used to say that we should always help everyone, in any situation when something serious happens. I realized that I have the strength to help him...> If no one helps, if there are no adults around, then [on my part] there will be the same actions," Bikhtyakova said.

Hero of Russia, Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council Yuri Vorobyov addressed the audience.

"Your feat, your behavior should become an example for all the children of our country. <...> It is important that adults should definitely notice the heroic deeds of children," he said.

Cultural figures and representatives of the Investigative Committee (IC) of the Russian Federation also attended the ceremony.

In March, Sergei Zaitsev, chairman of the Call of the People movement, announced that Sergei Shcheglov, a 10-year-old resident of the Kursk region, who risked his life to wage a covert struggle against Ukrainian formations, recording their atrocities and passing valuable information to Russian troops, had been awarded the Medal For Courage. He called the student the pride of Russia, noting that anyone can become a hero, regardless of age. Izvestia spoke with a boy from the village of Kazachya Loknya in the Sudzha district, Seryozha showed the devastating consequences of the actions of the militants of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU).
