Lifting the blockade is the best way for the United States to help Cuba after Hurricane Melissa. This was announced on October 31 by Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro.

"This is the first time the U.S. government has offered assistance to Cuba. Well, the best way to help is to lift the entire economic blockade against Cuba and to lift all measures of economic persecution. This is the best help that the United States government can provide to our sister Cuba," Maduro said, speaking at the closing of the first International Space Congress in Caracas, a video of which was posted on the LalguanaTV LIVE YouTube channel.

As Maduro recalled, 165 countries voted for the immediate lifting of the embargo against Cuba at a meeting of the UN General Assembly on October 29.

Earlier, on October 28, it was reported that Hurricane Melissa, which struck Jamaica and Cuba, became the most powerful among all those that reached land in 90 years. It is noted that in terms of pressure, Melissa equaled the hurricane of 1935, which struck Florida on Labor Day, and in terms of wind speed, Hurricane Dorian, which occurred in 2019.
