Vladislav Grib, Deputy Secretary of the Civic Chamber of the Russian Federation, said in a conversation about the importance of returning to social studies in grades 6-7 for patriotic education and students' understanding of the legal foundations. This became known on October 31.

Earlier, the Ministry of Education announced plans to gradually reduce the teaching of this subject: from 2025 it will remain only for grades 8-11, and from 2026 — for grades 9-11.

"As a lawyer, I am very sorry that these topics are excluded from the school curriculum. As a parent, I can partially understand this decision, but it is important that the main issues addressed in social studies classes in sixth and seventh grades remain in the curriculum," RIA Novosti quoted the deputy secretary as saying.

Grib noted that the complete return of the subject may overload the program, but the legal framework should be preserved in the format of electives or included in other disciplines.

"Not all teenagers understand the consequences of their actions, but criminal and administrative liability for many offenses begins at the age of 14. Therefore, understanding the law is important for the future of every schoolchild," added the representative of the Civic Chamber of the Russian Federation.
