Crab sticks are made from surimi, a ground protein mass of low—fat marine fish, most often pollock, with the addition of starch, salt, sugar, vegetable oils and flavors that mimic the taste of crab. The red color is obtained using food coloring agents — carmine or betamine. This was reported to the Newspaper on October 31.Ru" RosBioTech experts.

"Crab sticks are low in calories, easy to prepare, and available at low prices all year round. However, this product is not as harmless as it seems, due to the high content of chemical additives that can cause allergies and negatively affect health," said Dmitry Bystrov, Associate professor of the Department of Catering Industry.

According to the expert, the presence of starch reduces the nutritional value of the product and can provoke fluctuations in blood glucose levels, which is dangerous for people with type 2 diabetes or insulin resistance. The expert stressed that crab sticks can be included in the diet in moderation, but they should not be abused, and when buying, you should choose products with a minimum amount of additives.

Earlier, on October 30, Natalia Fomenko, head of the Department of Food Safety at RosBioTech, warned about unscrupulous meat and chicken producers who use solutions to increase weight and improve the appearance of products. She noted that this reduces their safety and may affect the health of consumers.
