New York State Governor Kathy Hokul declared a state of emergency on October 30 after the federal government was suspended. The measure is designed to provide funding for the food stamp program and prevent food shortages for low-income residents.

"I want to use all the means at our disposal so that New Yorkers don't starve," Hokul said at a press conference.

The governor also announced the allocation of an additional $65 million for emergency food aid. According to her administration, this amount will provide about 40 million servings of food to those in need.
