Miass in the Chelyabinsk Region plans to start collecting a tourist tax in 2026. This was announced by Elena Ponomareva, Deputy head of the city for Economic Development and Investments, at a meeting of the budget commission on October 28.

Ponomareva told about the intention of the city authorities to submit a draft decision on the tourist tax for consideration by the Assembly of deputies. Starting in 2026, it is proposed to set a fixed rate of 2%.

The measure will be aimed at attracting additional funds to the budget and increasing the attractiveness of Miass for tourists. It is expected that at a rate of 2%, revenues to the treasury will amount to at least 8 million rubles per year. This estimate is preliminary, and the calculations take into account tax benefits for residents of the Miass city district.

According to the <url> news agency, Miass is one of the most popular holiday destinations for residents of the Chelyabinsk Region and neighboring regions. The Ilmen Nature Reserve, a large ski resort, and the unique Lake Turgoyak, which is also called the younger brother of Lake Baikal, are located in the district.

On March 31, the Center for Project Development of Territories and Tourism reported that in 2024, almost 4.7 million people visited the tourist locations of Miass and its surroundings, but only 1.58 million tourists stayed overnight. Analysts believe that interest in the region as a whole and in the Miass city district in particular will only grow.

At the same time, the website of the district administration says that the official tourist flow according to the accommodation facilities over the past three years has increased from 130 thousand to 225 thousand in 2024. In summer and winter, hotel occupancy exceeds 80%.

The tourist tax appeared in the Tax Code in July 2024. Starting from January 1, 2025, it will be charged for stays in hotels, sanatoriums, rest homes, boarding houses and tourist bases that are on the register of classified accommodation facilities. The fee does not apply to apartments and children's camps.

Local authorities themselves decide on the introduction of a tax on their territory and determine its rate depending on the seasonality. However, there is an upper threshold that cannot be exceeded. In 2025, the tourist tax rate is 1% of the price of accommodation, but not less than 100 rubles per day. The rate will increase annually until it reaches 5% by 2029.
