Russia expresses the hope that the draft laws on the extension of Israeli sovereignty to the West Bank of the Jordan River will not be finalized, otherwise it will lead to a new escalation in the Middle East. This was stated on October 30 by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, at a briefing.

"We hope that it will not come to the final approval of the bills. Otherwise, it will not be possible to avoid a new dangerous escalation of tension both in the Occupied Palestinian territory and in the Middle East region as a whole," Zakharova stressed.

She drew attention to the fact that in the office of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, this step was regarded as a "deliberate political provocation by political opponents," and Netanyahu himself instructed to suspend the promotion of draft laws until further notice.

In the event of an escalation, according to the diplomat, international efforts to reduce confrontation will be "undermined and thrown far back."

Earlier, on October 23, American leader Donald Trump announced that the Israeli side does not intend to annex the West Bank of the Jordan River.

Later, on October 28, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ordered new strikes on the Gaza Strip. According to the Israeli leader's office, the Prime Minister made this decision after security consultations.
