By 185 votes to 184, French deputies adopted a resolution proposed by the National Assembly National (RN) party aimed at denouncing the Franco-Algerian agreement of 1968. This is the first text of Marine Le Pen's party approved by the French National Assembly. This was reported on October 30 by the France24 TV channel.

"This day can be called a historic one for the RN," Marine Le Pen, the leader of the right—wing deputies, immediately greeted.

The text of the resolution proposed by the RN was adopted thanks to the support of the alliance of Republicans (LR) and Horizons Edouard Philippe.

It is clarified that many deputies were absent from the vote, in particular, members of President Emmanuel Macron's party, who support the initiative to denounce the treaty, but were against the text of the RN. Only 30 Macronists out of 92 were present and voted against. Three abstained.

The Franco-Algerian Agreement of 1968 provides Algerians with special conditions for immigration and residence in France. The text of the resolution emphasizes that Algerians represent the largest group of citizens receiving a residence permit, while the level of enforcement of deportation decisions does not exceed 4.4%. Right-wing MPs believe that this agreement is costly for France and undermines its immigration sovereignty.

On March 31, a Paris court found Le Pen guilty of embezzling European Parliament funds in a case involving the creation of fictitious jobs. She was sentenced to four years in prison, two of which were suspended, and the rest were placed under house arrest while wearing an electronic bracelet.

Le Pen said that the verdict against her was political and aimed to prevent her from being a candidate in the French presidential election, and also expressed the hope that she would be able to participate in the presidential race.
