Dmitry Zhilin, cardiologist at Lyubertsy Regional Hospital, told us which types of strokes are the most dangerous.

In an interview with Radio 1 on Thursday, October 30, the expert explained that the fundamental difference between the types of strokes lies in the mechanism of their occurrence. According to him, an ischemic stroke develops due to a blockage of a vessel, which leads to a blockage of blood flow in the artery feeding the brain. Hemorrhagic stroke, on the other hand, is associated with rupture of an artery and leakage of blood into the brain tissue.

He noted that both types of stroke are extremely dangerous, but their devastating effects vary. In ischemic stroke, brain cells die due to lack of oxygen and nutrients, and in hemorrhagic stroke, compression of tissues by blood is added.

The cardiologist added that the skull is unable to stretch, so any internal increase in pressure leads to severe consequences. The doctor emphasized that the main insidiousness of stroke lies in its suddenness, because the disease often develops without noticeable precursors or against the background of symptoms that people do not attach importance to.
