Dead seals were found near the village of Lidovka in Primorsky Krai on the shores of the Pacific Ocean. Locals claim that one of the popular holiday destinations has turned into a "pinniped cemetery."

The exact cause of death of the seals is still unknown.

The Vladivostok interdistrict Environmental prosecutor's office began checking after media reports about the death of seals. An assessment of the execution of powers by state authorities will be given. Based on the results of the inspection, a set of prosecutorial response measures will be taken, IA PrimaMedia writes.

In August, it was reported that 39 Red Book pinnipeds had been rescued in St. Petersburg since the beginning of the season. This was a record high for the city. The staff of the Friends of the Baltic Seal Foundation rescued 28 gray seals, six Ladoga ringed seals and five Baltic ringed seals.
