Rospotrebnadzor has taken control of reports of a new coronavirus in bats in Brazil. The relevant information was posted on the agency's website on October 30.
"Currently, the risk of transmission of the virus from animals to humans remains low, but continued monitoring and in—depth research is necessary to ensure safety and preparedness for possible challenges in the future," the publication says.
According to the agency, Brazilian scientists have identified the new coronavirus BRZ batCoV in a small species of insectivorous bats, samples for research were collected in the states of Maranhão and São Paulo.
Experts from the department's leading research organizations are actively studying BRZ batCoV, the material noted.
Laboratory monkeys carrying hepatitis C and COVID-19 escaped from a car accident in the United States on October 28. It was clarified that all the monkeys, except for one individual, were found and destroyed.
