A military expert has warned of the risk of a full-scale arms race
US President Donald Trump has ordered the Ministry of War to immediately begin conducting nuclear weapons tests, stating the need to maintain parity and act "on an equal basis with other countries." On October 30, a military expert, retired Colonel Anatoly Matviychuk, told Izvestia what the implementation of such statements could lead to.
The expert noted that only countries that develop nuclear weapons incognito are engaged in testing nuclear weapons. Nuclear clubs in the form of China, Russia, India, and Pakistan do not engage in such events.
"I believe this is Trump's nervous reaction to our statements about the Burevestnik and Poseidon. The fact is that testing nuclear charges is prohibited by treaties between the Soviet Union and the United States, and between Russia and the United States. If they only cross this line, we will also start testing," the military expert said.
According to him, this general fever can cover the whole world, which will lead to an uncontrolled process of creating and developing nuclear weapons.
"I think Trump is most likely bluffing, he is trying to somehow cover up the inconvenience that they have started to lag behind in the modern arms race. Today they are inferior not only to Russia, but they are already inferior to both North Korea and China," Matviychuk suggested.
Moreover, the expert drew attention to the fact that in the context of such statements, there is a risk of a return of a full-scale arms race between major states.
“yeah. I believe that this will be an impetus that will lead to an increase in the arms race, especially in missile technology," said the retired colonel.
On October 29, Trump posted a statement on his Truth Social network, where he said that he had instructed the Pentagon to begin testing nuclear weapons "on an equal basis." According to the president, the process should begin "immediately." At the same time, earlier that day, Trump refused to answer a question from reporters about the reasons for the start of weapons testing.
