According to experts, the program provides for the deployment of thousands of interceptor satellites in low orbit, capable of destroying enemy missiles even at the initial part of the trajectory. However, such an architecture requires enormous costs and can lead to the militarization of space. China has already expressed concern about Washington's plans, warning of the "risk of a new arms race in orbit."

Congressional analysts have estimated that launching space interceptors alone could cost more than $500 billion over 20 years. Todd Harrison, a senior researcher at the American Enterprise Institute, believes that the full implementation of the project may require up to $3.6 trillion.
