The situation around the Zaporizhia Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) continues to be extremely serious. This was announced on October 29 by the head of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Rafael Grossi, during a briefing with journalists.

"The situation [at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant] remains very serious. <...> We are still in a state where fighting is underway there," he said, the briefing was broadcast on the United Nations (UN) website.

Grossi stressed that a truce must be reached in the area of the nuclear power plant so that workers can repair the power plant. In addition, the head of the IAEA confirmed that work on the restoration of the Ferroalloy-1 power transmission line, necessary for the power supply of the plant, is continuing.

On October 23, it was reported that the Zaporizhia NPP had resumed the supply of electricity to meet the station's own needs 30 days after the complete loss of external power supply. It was clarified that earlier the power supply was carried out from backup diesel generators. Later, the IAEA confirmed the restoration of external power supply to the NPP.

On October 18, Grossi announced that work on the nuclear power plant had begun after the creation of local cease-fire zones to continue work. It was possible to announce the political and technical conditions for the repair of the NPP thanks to the cooperation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, Rosatom and the IAEA.

Prior to that, on October 9, the process of restoring power supply lines at the power plant began. Grossi has been negotiating with Moscow and Kiev to restore the supply of electricity needed to cool six shut down reactors and spent fuel.
