Russia is concerned about the incoming information about massive human rights violations in the Sudanese city of Al-Fasher, which has come under the control of units of the rapid reaction forces. This was announced on October 29 on the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) of the Russian Federation.

"The use of violence against the civilian population is unacceptable and contradicts the generally accepted norms of international humanitarian law. Moscow calls on those responsible for the situation in the city to take the necessary measures to protect its residents," the statement said.

According to the published document, Russia insists on the need to end hostilities and activate a full-scale political process.

At the same time, the ongoing diplomatic efforts to force the domestic crisis should be focused on achieving national accord, taking into account the positions and approaches of the central government, as well as influential socio-political forces in Sudan.

Earlier, on August 8, the Russian Foreign Ministry had already stated the need to resolve the conflict in Sudan. At that time, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Vershinin, at a meeting with Sudanese Ambassador to Moscow Mohammed Sirraj, stressed that Russia adheres to the position of the importance of unity, sovereignty, integrity and achieving national accord in Sudan. It was noted that the countries plan to expand cooperation in trade, economic and humanitarian spheres.

The situation in Sudan escalated in mid-April 2023 due to disagreements between the Commander-in-Chief of the Sudanese Armed Forces, Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, and the head of the Security Council, Mohammed Daglo. Due to the ongoing conflict, a humanitarian crisis has arisen in the country, which has led to famine and outbreaks of disease. Clashes between the Sudanese army and a paramilitary group are still ongoing.

In February, it was reported that the West ignores the armed conflicts in Sudan and the Democratic Republic of the Congo, as well as human rights violations, humanitarian disasters and political repression in a number of other countries. The West has focused its attention on the Palestinian-Israeli conflict and the Ukrainian crisis.
