Two-time Olympic champion, Honored Master of Sports of the USSR Lidiya Ivanova spoke about the death and fate of Olympic champion in artistic gymnastics Olga Karaseva.
In conversation with aif.ru On Wednesday, October 29, she said that Karaseva's death came as a bitter surprise to everyone who remembers her at the height of her fame.
"Olga was a great gymnast, European champion, Olympic champion. She had her own unique handwriting.: she performed floor exercises brilliantly, so coquettishly, with flirtation, with artistry, it was impossible not to notice her. Outwardly, Olya was pretty, and everything seemed to be going well for her in life," Ivanova shared.
According to her, Karaseva spoke French and was engaged in judicial activities, but due to illness she could not work actively. In recent years, she lived alone with her dogs, whom she loved very much. I was even involved in an animal business at one time. The athlete led a secluded lifestyle, rarely appeared at meetings and gradually stopped communicating with colleagues, which, according to friends, was due to her illness.
The former gymnast was married twice, first to Olympic medalist Valery Karasev, then to another man, but both marriages broke up. She had no children.
Olga Karaseva's death became known on October 28. She passed away at the age of 76 on October 26, according to the Moscow City News Agency. The cause of death, as well as the date and place of farewell are not specified, writes Life.ru .
The athlete has forever entered the history of gymnastics: she was the Olympic champion in 1968, world champion and multiple winner of the USSR championships, writes RT. Her artistry and style of performance have become an example for a whole generation of athletes.
