The political scientist assessed the rapprochement between Armenia and Azerbaijan
The Armenian authorities are very interested in rapprochement with Azerbaijan. This was stated by Russian Caucasian expert Artur Ataev in an interview with Izvestia.
"First of all, the country's authorities want to show the domestic audience that we are not talking about unilateral concessions, Baku is also making steps towards them. Secondly, after improving relations with Azerbaijan, Yerevan hopes to establish cooperation with Turkey, as well as enter the markets of the Middle East," he notes.
The expert adds that Transcaucasia is characterized by a scenario in which the statements of politicians are followed by certain actions. According to him, in this case, too, at first there were a lot of words about peace, and now it has come to real progress.
Earlier, on October 21, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev said that the country had lifted all restrictions on the transit of goods to Armenia. He stressed that this is an important step towards establishing peace between the two republics "not only on paper, but also in practice."
On August 8, Ilham Aliyev and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan signed a declaration on the peaceful settlement of the conflict in Washington. They agreed to end the confrontation and resume diplomatic relations.
