Record harvest of oilseeds to be harvested in Chelyabinsk region
333 thousand tons of sunflower, oilseed flax and rapeseed have already been harvested in the Chelyabinsk region. Of the 359 thousand hectares, 268 thousand hectares have already been threshed. On the same date in 2024, 129 thousand tons of oilseeds were harvested, the press service of the regional government reported on Wednesday, October 29.
"This year's harvest of oilseeds pleases our farmers. Compared to last year, when 278,000 tons of oilseeds were harvested, we hope to harvest at least 350,000 tons of oilseeds," said Alexey Kobylin, head of the regional Ministry of Agriculture.
According to the official, in 2025, Chelyabinsk farms increased the area of planting of these crops by more than 100 thousand hectares, as they see a return.
So, by October 29, an average of 14.3 hundredweight of sunflower is harvested from one hectare. This figure exceeds the figure of 13.2 c/ha for the same period in 2024. Rapeseed yield reached 15.8 c/ha compared to 10.5 c/ha a year earlier. Flax recorded an increase to 10.6 c/ha against 8.6 c/ha last year.
In total, farmers threshed 48.3 thousand tons of sunflower, 141.2 thousand tons of oilseed flax and 28.2 thousand tons of rapeseed. Soybeans, mustard, and oilseed ginger are also cultivated in the Southern Urals as an alternative to traditional oilseeds.
Earlier it was reported that by 2030, Russia intends to increase grain exports by about 14% compared to 2024, to almost $20 billion. The supply of fat and oil products should increase by a similar amount and reach about $10 billion.
