A Russian citizen who was illegally detained in a fraudulent call center in Myanmar has been evacuated to China to return to her homeland. This was helped by the work of Russian diplomats, the Russian Embassy in Beijing reported on October 29.

"With the assistance of Russian diplomats, our compatriot, who was illegally detained in a fraudulent call center in Myanmar, was successfully evacuated to China for subsequent return to her homeland," the message on the Telegram channel of the diplomatic mission says.

It is noted that the woman's life and health are no longer in danger. There were difficulties in the situation due to the lack of identification documents for the Russian woman. Prior to the evacuation, the woman was sheltered in a local migration center in Myanmar with the help of the Russian diplomatic mission in the country.

"The Russian Embassy in China has managed to coordinate with the Chinese Foreign Ministry her unhindered entry into Yunnan Province bordering Myanmar. Further, consular support was provided by employees of the Russian Consulate General in Guangzhou," the diplomatic mission said.

The woman's return to Russia is scheduled for October 30.

On October 13, Ilya Ilyin, head of the consular department of the Russian Embassy in Thailand, announced the detention of several Russians in a fraudulent call center on the border of Myanmar and Thailand. The organizers of call centers lured Russians into slavery by offering them careers as models or advertising agents.

After that, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Andrei Rudenko announced on October 23 that several Russians who were held in Myanmar had been released and were in Russia. Then he thanked the official authorities of Myanmar and Thailand for the active assistance shown in resolving this issue.

On October 24, Ilyin revealed details of rescue operations for Russians in an interview with Izvestia. In 2025, four Russians were released from such centers with the direct participation of the Russian Embassy. The rescue mechanism included coordination with Thai law enforcement agencies and the Myanmar Embassy in Bangkok. As the diplomat explained, the hostages were given a ceiling on the required income of up to $1 million per month.
