AP has learned about Trump's demand for the use of real bombs in US Navy exercises
The White House recommended that the US Navy use real aerial bombs instead of dummy ones during exercises held in early October at the Naval Atlantic Fleet Base in Norfolk. This was reported by the Associated Press (AP) on October 29, citing sources.
It is noted that as part of the Titans of the Sea exercises, dedicated to the 250th anniversary of the country's Navy, the military planned to use dummies weighing about a ton. However, representatives of the presidential administration told the organizers that American leader Donald Trump "wants to see explosions, not just big bursts."
The White House pressured U.S. Navy officials to launch 2,000-pound live bombs instead of dummy explosives during a military demonstration celebrating Trump's 250th anniversary of service.
According to the newspaper, the president's wishes forced the Navy leadership to make changes to the detailed demonstration plan, initially aimed at observing security measures.
Earlier in the day, Trump said that the United States was allegedly significantly ahead of other countries in the field of building nuclear submarines — by 25 years. According to him, the country ranks first in the military sphere, in particular, in terms of the quality of weapons.
