In St. Petersburg, two more suspects were detained in the criminal case of the abduction of Zenit football player Andrei Mostovoy. This was reported on October 29 in the Telegram channel of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation.
The investigators interrogated the detainees, during which they admitted their guilt. The issue of choosing a preventive measure is currently being resolved.
"The investigators of the General Directorate of the Investigative Committee of Russia for the city of St. Petersburg <...> detained two more suspects. According to investigators, on Thursday, October 23, the suspects attempted to kidnap the athlete at the house on Vyazovaya Street. Meanwhile, the victim, along with his acquaintance, businessman Sergey Selegen, the son—in—law of State Duma deputy Vyacheslav Makarov, actively resisted the attackers, thereby preventing them from realizing their intent.
It is noted that after that, the attackers abducted another man and demanded to transfer 10 million rubles to them for his release.
As part of the investigation, criminal cases were initiated on the grounds of crimes provided for under Part 3 of Article 30, paragraph "a" of Part 2 of Article 126 of the Criminal Code ("Attempted kidnapping"), paragraphs "a, b, g, z" of Part 2 of Article 126 of the Criminal Code ("Kidnapping"), 162 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Robbery"), the agency clarified.
On October 27, a source from Izvestia reported an attempted abduction of football players Mostovoy and Selegen. The athlete was attacked by a group of unknown people, but the young man managed to fight off the kidnappers. Soon after, five suspects were detained in St. Petersburg. A criminal case was opened into the incident under Articles 126 ("Kidnapping") and 162 ("Robbery") of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. It was reported that the alleged mastermind of the crime is located outside of Russia.
Later, in a conversation with the editors, the athlete shared that he could not have imagined that such an incident could happen to him. Zenit football player Andrei Mostovoy did not call anyone and create panic after intruders attempted to kidnap him in St. Petersburg the day before.
