The premiere of the NMG DOC documentary "Combat lasers. The Hunt for Superweapons" from NMG DOC was watched by more than 2 million Russians on REN TV.

According to Mediascope, the share of the REN TV channel in the audience of "22-55" during the screening of the film on October 26 reached 12.7%*, the number of viewers exceeded 2 million people.

Barcode readers and printers, target designators and rangefinders, new-generation surgical scalpels, and even cold fusion. All this works with the help of a laser, a unique invention of the brilliant Soviet physicists Alexander Prokhorov and Nikolai Basov. In the mid-1950s, Prokhorov and Basov designed an optical quantum generator, which served as the basis for creating combat lasers. In the 1960s, thanks to them, programs for the development of high-power laser weapons "Terra" and "Omega" appeared, followed by laser installations for tracking and destroying space targets and ballistic missiles.

The two—part documentary spy detective is based on the story of the confrontation between two of the most powerful intelligence agencies in the world - the KGB and the CIA. From the film, the audience learned not only about the complex relationship between two brilliant Soviet physicists, but also about how the Nobel Prize can become a weapon for obtaining top-secret materials and advanced developments.

The film was directed by Sergey Airapetov, written by Evgeny Kozyr and Alexey Zenzinov, and produced by Mikhail Tukmachev, Ekaterina Avaliani, Yulia Zasko, and Evgenia Kozyr.

On May 14, the online premiere of the documentary took place on the platform Wink.ru
