- The orientalist pointed to Israel's attempts to change the negotiating terms with Hamas.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's order to carry out powerful strikes on the Gaza Strip is aimed at changing the terms of negotiations with the Palestinian Hamas movement and restoring initiative for Tel Aviv in the long-running conflict. This was stated on October 29 by political analyst Dmitry Brije to Izvestia.
"Israel is not ready for peace, it is not ready to make concessions, and it will not be easy to resolve this situation. This is precisely the Israeli political conflict, and the policy of the administration of US President Donald Trump does not always solve the situation. It only slows down some processes in order to create a certain image or build it up, or to make propaganda about great successes, claiming that Trump is the president of the world and that he can solve conflicts on a global, international level," the source said.
According to the orientalist, the Israeli policy may lead to a further deterioration of the situation.
Brydje also added that Israel's actions could legitimize the escalation as a restoration of previous rules. He stressed that if the commitments are not fulfilled, the pressure will increase. With the transfer of the hostages' bodies delayed, Hamas is trying to maintain room for maneuver.
"If we are talking about possible scenarios for the development of the coming week, then there are several options. We can say that scenario A is a sharp escalation: Israel intensifies attacks, Hamas responds with rocket volleys, which, of course, is not yet possible in this situation, since the military arsenal of Hamas has been partially destroyed. Scenario B is pressure and negotiation. Israel is demonstrating its readiness for harsh actions. Hamas, after a public show of force, makes concessions, either on the issue of the return of hostages, or in continuing negotiations with intermediaries," the political scientist concluded.
On October 28, Netanyahu's office announced that the Prime Minister had ordered new strikes on the Gaza Strip. In response to his decision, the militant wing of Hamas announced that it would delay the transfer of the hostage's body due to violations of the ceasefire by Israel.
