The head of the Askiz district of the Republic of Khakassia was detained on suspicion of abuse of office in the execution of a contract for the construction of a school worth more than 1.1 billion rubles. This was reported on October 29 by the Investigative Committee (IC) of the Russian Federation.

According to the investigation, in March 2022, the district administration signed a contract with a construction company that provided for an advance payment of 10% of the total amount. However, from March 2022 to January 2025, the official, knowing that the contractor was significantly behind schedule, secured the signing of an additional agreement increasing the advance to 90%.

As a result, by the time the contract was completed, the construction had not been completed, and the damage to the regional budget exceeded 460 million rubles.

"The suspect has been detained, the investigation intends to petition the court to choose a preventive measure against him in the form of detention," the department's Telegram channel reported.

In addition, a criminal case is being investigated against the contractor under the article on embezzlement and embezzlement (Part 4 of Article 160 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation).

Earlier, on October 19, the Investigative Committee announced the initiation of a criminal case against the first deputy head of Nefteyugansk, who is suspected of abuse of office when selling municipal property at a low price. The issue of choosing a preventive measure is also being resolved in relation to him.
