The Prosecutor General's Office demanded to seize assets of the ex-mayor of Sochi in the amount of 1.6 million rubles.

The Prosecutor General's Office of the Russian Federation, represented by First Deputy Prosecutor General Razinkin A.V., filed a lawsuit to confiscate the property of former Sochi Mayor Alexei Kopaigorodsky, his relatives, as well as individuals and organizations associated with them.

As the Kommersant newspaper reported on October 26, the prosecutor's office initiated the seizure of state ownership of assets of former Sochi mayor Alexei Kopaigorodsky, his relatives and a number of related persons totaling 1.6 billion rubles.

The list of properties includes five Mercedes cars, luxury real estate in the immediate vicinity of the Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg, as well as a total of 77 properties.

At the request of the agency, the Khostinsky District Court of Sochi has already imposed an interim arrest on the specified property and bank accounts.

"The defense of the defendants says that the legality of the acquisition of assets is confirmed by documents," the publication says.

The former mayor of Sochi was detained on September 25 in the special operation zone, where he had volunteered some time ago. On the same day, he was arrested until November 18. Kopaigorodsky is charged with embezzlement of 3.7 million rubles, he pleaded not guilty to the charges. The ex-mayor is also being investigated for involvement in other crimes. If confirmed, new charges will be brought against him.

In early October, the property of the former mayor's relatives was seized by the court. It was later reported that his wife, lawyer, teacher and doctor were also involved in the Kopaygorodsky case. On October 15, the Moscow City Court recognized the arrest of the former mayor of Sochi as lawful.

On August 13, the Meshchansky District Court of Moscow extended the arrest of former Sochi mayor Alexei Kopaigorodsky until September 24. His wife Yanina's arrest was extended until November 12.
