Despite the conclusion of the "deal of the century" between Israel and Palestine, mediated by US President Donald Trump, to resolve the situation in the Gaza Strip, the centuries-old conflict has escalated. Israel has launched attacks on Gaza. What is known about the first strikes on Gaza is in the Izvestia digest.

Prerequisites for the escalation of the conflict in Gaza

On October 28, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ordered new strikes on the Gaza Strip. Netanyahu's office added that the prime Minister made this decision following security consultations following the discovery by the radical Palestinian movement Hamas of the body of an Israeli prisoner during a search operation in a tunnel in the southern Gaza Strip.

At the same time, according to the Associated Press, Israel notified the United States of its intention to carry out strikes on Gaza. There is no information about how the United States reacted.

The IDF launched its first strikes on the Gaza Strip

According to Al Mayadeen TV channel, on October 28, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) carried out an airstrike near the Al-Shifa hospital in the Gaza Strip. In addition, the Israeli military attacked the Al-Shati refugee camp west of Gaza City and east of Deir al-Balakh in the central part of the enclave.

Al Jazeera TV channel also reported airstrikes on the area where the medical center is located. At the same time, the Israeli army itself did not comment on the situation.

The first attacks are the first victims

The IDF's strikes on the Gaza Strip were accompanied not only by new destruction, but also by the death of civilians. According to Al Arabi TV channel, two people were killed in an IDF attack on an apartment building in the south of Gaza City.

Al Jazeera TV channel clarified that the strike hit a house in the Sabra quarter of the capital of the Palestinian enclave. Four people were injured, including an infant.

Later that day, the Tasnim news agency reported an increase in the death toll from Israeli strikes on Gaza to 11 people. The agency added that the eastern part of Gaza was also subjected to a series of massive Israeli attacks.

On October 29, civil defense spokesman Mahmoud Basal reported that at least 30 people had been killed in Israeli strikes on the Gaza Strip. He also noted that dozens were injured as a result of the IDF attacks.

All this time, the Israel Defense Forces has not commented on any of its strikes.

Reaction to a new round of escalation

Few political figures reacted to the resumption of Israeli strikes on the Gaza Strip. The Turkish Foreign Ministry in a statement accused Israel of violating the ceasefire in Gaza and called on both sides to comply with the agreement governing the situation in Gaza. The country's Foreign Ministry stressed that this measure will ensure regional security, which Turkey is concerned about.

Senator Alexey Pushkov commented on the current situation. He noted the short-lived nature of the "deal of the century." According to him, the United States did not take care of the compliance of both sides with the terms of the deal. The senator drew a parallel with the West's attempt to end the conflict in Ukraine as soon as possible.
