According to the expert, to increase the level of hemoglobin in the diet, products containing heme iron should be present: red meat, offal, seafood, poultry and eggs. Plant sources of iron such as legumes, whole grains, broccoli, beetroot and spinach also play an important role.

"To improve the absorption of iron from food, combine iron-rich foods with vitamin C: citrus fruits, lemon juice, red pepper, broccoli. But caffeinated drinks, such as tea or coffee, should not be consumed 45 minutes before or after a meal.: they interfere with the absorption of iron," the doctor noted.

Dibrova added that a decrease in hemoglobin may be associated not only with nutrition, but also with diseases.

"If the main cause of anemia is not eliminated — whether it is gastrointestinal problems, gynecological pathologies or blood diseases — iron replenishment will be meaningless. It's like bailing water out of a leaky boat," the specialist explained.

According to her, they strengthen the immune system, help with inflammation and make up for vitamin deficiencies due to the high content of antioxidants and organic acids.
