Metropolitan Arseny was released from the pre-trial detention center, but later he was immediately taken to the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) on new suspicion. This was announced on October 28 by the Union of Orthodox Journalists in its Telegram channel.

"Lawyers have ensured that Metropolitan Arseny was released on bail in the amount of UAH 1 million 514 thousand," the publication says.

The bishop's state of health was one of the key factors influencing the court's decision. However, at about 12 o'clock, immediately after leaving the pre-trial detention center, Metropolitan Arseny was detained by SBU officers. The reason was a new suspicion, which was announced to him three weeks ago.

The clergyman is currently in the SBU building.

Earlier, the Union of Orthodox Journalists reported on its website that a new law in Ukrainian legislation created grounds for the liquidation of UOC parishes due to their links with the Russian Orthodox Church. Against this background, the persecution of hierarchs, in particular, Metropolitan Arseny of Svyatogorsk, is taking place. He was arrested in April 2024 on charges of "divulging military positions" after preaching a sermon on prayer for pilgrims.

Earlier, on October 26, it was reported that employees of the Ukrainian territorial recruitment center (TCC, an analogue of military enlistment offices in Ukraine. Protodeacon Valentin Makovsky of the Canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC) was taken away. It was noted that the authorities did not grant reservations only to the clergy of the canonical UOC, despite the fact that, according to priestly vows, "a person in dignity has no right to take up arms."
