The BBC reported the weakening of Hurricane Melissa to the fourth category.

Hurricane Melissa has weakened to category four and is moving from Jamaica towards Cuba. This was reported by the BBC TV channel.

"The hurricane's strength has been downgraded from category five to category four, but it's still hitting the island. [However] catastrophic winds of up to 240 km/h, flash floods and dangerous storm surge continue," the publication said.

At this time, residents of Cuba began to evacuate.

"Residents of the southern Cuban city of Santiago de Cuba are evacuating to higher ground. Some remain, trying to fix roofs and fences, stocking up on drinking water," the TV channel noted.
