Zimbabwe's President Emmerson Mnangagwa was forced to finish reading his speech on the state of affairs in the country in the dark after a sudden power outage at the parliament building. The incident occurred during the speech of the head of state at the opening of the third session. This was reported on October 28 by the newspaper ZimLive.com .

According to sources, the lights went out due to a malfunction of the rented generator, which was the main power source for the event.

"The system went down shortly after 2:30 p.m. local time (1:30 p.m. Moscow time), when Mnangagwa was nearing the end of his speech," the publication reported.

Automatic switching to the power grid of the national company ZESA did not occur due to an error by engineers of the Ministry of Local Government when setting up the equipment. The electricity was restored manually only after more than 5 minutes.

Despite the advice of the security service to stop speaking, the 83-year-old leader continued his speech. The assistant illuminated the text for him with a flashlight. Parliament Speaker Jakob Mudenda apologized to the president and hinted at sabotage, promising to find and severely punish those responsible.

Earlier, on October 16, it was reported that the head of the ROSSETI Group, Andrey Ryumin, and the Executive Chairman of the African Chamber of Energy, Anjay Ayuk, summed up the results of their bilateral cooperation over the year. The meeting took place on the sidelines of the international forum "Russian Energy Week". The parties discussed the current challenges facing the industry in Africa, including the development of comprehensive energy infrastructure development programs.
