Alexander Bastrykin, Chairman of the Investigative Committee of Russia, instructed to establish all the circumstances of the desecration of the monument to a Soviet soldier in the Norwegian city of Kirkenes. This was announced on October 28 by the Moscow Department of the Investigative Committee of Russia.
According to the ministry, on the night of October 25-26, unknown people scattered flowers and trampled wreaths laid at the memorial in honor of the 81st anniversary of the liberation of eastern Finnmark by the Red Army in 1944. The ceremony was attended by representatives of the Russian and Norwegian authorities, compatriots and local residents.
"The head of the Investigative Committee instructed the Main Investigative Department of the Investigative Committee of Russia, in cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, to establish all the circumstances of the incident and give a legal assessment of the actions of those involved in illegal actions," the agency's Telegram channel reported.
Earlier, on October 27, the police of Naberezhnye Chelny detained a 17-year-old college student for desecrating symbols of military glory of Russia. According to the Interior Ministry, the teenager persuaded his peers to commit illegal acts for a reward of 500 rubles. A criminal case has been opened under the article on the rehabilitation of Nazism, which provides for up to five years in prison.
