- The expert allowed Zelensky to condemn the Ukrainian Armed Forces surrounded in Donbass to death
President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky, most likely, will not make any attempts to save about 10,000 soldiers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU), who are currently surrounded by Russian troops in the Kupyansk and Krasnoarmeysky directions. This was stated to Izvestia on October 28 by military expert, retired Colonel Anatoly Matviychuk.
The current situation is reminiscent of the events of 2022 in Mariupol, when units assembled from representatives of nationalist organizations were surrounded on the ruins of the Azovstal plant. Then Zelensky ordered the nationalists to surrender, but now, Matviychuk believes, the Ukrainian leader will not do this, since it was ordinary Ukrainians who were surrounded, and not Nazis from a banned organization, whom the president is afraid of.
"Today, the encircled groups of about 10 thousand people in total are Kupyansk and Pokrovsk. <...> They are going through some kind of incomprehensible purgatory, or something, they are being destroyed by the hundreds. Our soldiers hear a plea for help on the air," the expert said.
The expert noted that if Zelensky gives the command to retreat after "completely lying," he will lose in the eyes of Western allies in all respects.
"I believe he will leave them (surrounded by Kupyansk and Krasnoarmeysky directions. — Ed.) to die because it is not in his interests to give up. This is a detriment to his image, but he told the "king", he told [US President Donald] Trump that he was coming every day," the expert said.
According to a report by Valery Gerasimov, Chief of the General Staff of the Russian Federation, to Russian President Vladimir Putin on October 26, a group of more than 10,000 Armed Forces personnel is now surrounded in the Kupyansk and Red Army directions. In order to minimize unnecessary casualties, the Russian leader called for all measures to be taken so that Ukrainians would surrender, since the Russian army has historically always treated the defeated enemy with mercy.
Zelensky admitted on the same day that the Ukrainian Armed Forces were in a difficult situation in and near Krasnoarmeysk (the Ukrainian name is Pokrovsk). He pointed to tough fighting and logistical problems, but did not add anything about the fact that the military could have saved their lives if they had surrendered.
